Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

I am so glad you stopped by to visit. I hope to get to know you over the weeks and months to come.

My aim on this website is to offer hope, encouragement and inspiration. My passion is to empower people to lead well. A leader to me is someone who guides, inspires, and influences others in a positive God-given direction. We all have the capacity to lead; however, only those who have the desire to exercise and grow in their leadership will become truly effective.

My background and who I am today is largely shaped by my faith, the field of psychology, life experience, and my family. My work, writing and speaking areas of interest are best reflected in these areas, too. I would be amiss if I didn’t mention how truly grateful I am  for the many friends, mentors, and consultants who have encouraged me along in my own journey.

My husband and I have been raising our sons over the last eighteen years. Our eldest son is getting ready to start college this next year. The time has gone quickly, just as my mother told me it would. If I were to encourage you mothers and fathers right now, I would say this:

Kiss your sons and daughters and let them know how precious they are to you. Tell them you love them as many times as you can. They need to hear it. They need to feel it. They need to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that your love is unconditional. Parenting can be challenging, exhilarating, exhausting, stretching, rewarding, demanding, and the best thing that may ever happen to you. Whatever season you are in with your children; let them know you care and care deeply.

In addition to raising our sons, I have been writing a book that is being launched in September 2011. The book is entitled: “Beautifully Gifted.” My philosophy about life is influenced by my belief that all good gifts are from God. I believe that we have been given many gifts in life. Some are more apparent than others; however, accepting this premise makes me grateful for so many things in my life: my marriage, my sons, my friends, the place I live, the church I attend, the unique gifts that I personally have. I hope to inspire you to look at the many gifts, you too, have been given.

I can really appreciate this Danish Proverb; perhaps you have heard it before:

What we are is God’s gift to us; what we make of our lives is our gift to God.

Understanding our gifts is an important aspect about the book; however, the main focus is on empowering women to live out their calling. I love the words once spoken by Catherine of Siena:

Be who God meant you to become and you will set the world on fire.

Her words embody my hope for you. You were created for something wonderful and marvelous, to be part of the high calling of God.
