Marriage Therapy in Malibu

Marriage therapy is an important means of dealing with couples discord. Some of the most common causes of marriage trouble are money, lack of affection, issues with children, poor communication including arguing, relationship blocks, infidelity, and a lack of passion and intimacy. A healthy and happy marriage doesn’t just happen! It requires work, commitment and love to maintain.

Are you tired of unproductive arguing, being romantically disappointed or hurt? Do you feel you aren’t being heard or understood? If you are experiencing any of these things you may be feeling deep sadness, depression, anger, resentment or loneliness. Marriage therapy can help you recognize and repair relationship issues. You can rebuild and strengthen your bonds.

Experiences in your family of origin can also influence the relationship you have with your partner. The good news is that there is help and hope for your marriage. Dr. Angela Bisignano is a licensed clinical psychologist whose focus in working with married couples is to understand relationship patterns, dynamics, and attachment styles. Her goal is to improve communication and conflict management, increase empathy, and deepen emotional connection with one another.

Unhealthy behavior and resentment can worsen with time. Often by the time a couple reaches a therapist’s office their relationship is operating under a great deal of distress. The sooner couples are motivated to seek help, the sooner they can find the tools they need to save or improve their marriage.

How Dr. Bisignano Works With Couples

You will all meet together for the first session at Dr. Bisignano’s office in Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, or virtually. The first session with married couples lasts approximately 60 minutes. If Dr. Bisignano believes she can be helpful to you and your spouse, you will schedule a second appointment. During the second and third appointments she will meet with each of you individually for approximately 45 minutes. During the fourth meeting you will reconvene at which time you will discuss your treatment goals and plan. Going on from here, you will all meet together for future sessions, although Dr. Bisignano might ask for an individual meeting with one or both of you if she thinks it is appropriate and can be helpful.

Most couples come to therapy because they want to repair or restore their relationships. Dr. Bisignano offers pathways for healing, encouragement, and hope. She is passionate about working with couples. Children model their parents, so when they see new healthier ways their parents interact, stress in the home decreases, the children are happier, and home feels safer. Dr. Bisignano loves this model for healing, rebuilding, and restoration.

The Collaborative Approach

Dr. Bisignano takes a collaborative approach with her clients, helping couples move out of argumentative or avoidant patterns and work together toward their goal of improving the marriage. She is interactive with the couple during the process; she doesn’t just sit and listen. Dr. Bisignano offers and utilizes the most effective strategies, teaches skills, and helps clients to regain trust and confidence in their spouses.
